The Ministry of Health has equipped Kisoro Hospital with blood bank equipment to ensure a safe and adequate blood supply for patients, aiming to significantly reduce maternal and child mortality as well as complications arising from diseases in Kisoro District.
The equipment was secured through the efforts of the Kisoro District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Akifeza Grace Ngabirano, who also facilitated its delivery to the district. The machines were warmly received by a section of Kisoro District local leaders and the district health team during a brief ceremony held at the District Headquarters, before being installed at Kisoro Hospital.
Speaking at the handover event, the Kisoro Hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr. Emmanuel Bahane, expressed his gratitude, noting that this marked the first time the district had received a blood bank. He revealed that the hospital had long struggled with blood shortages.
