The African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) Force Commander, Lt Gen Sam Kavuma, has applauded Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) troops serving under National Guard Unit Eleven (UNGU-XI) for their discipline, dedication, and professionalism.
During his maiden visit to the unit’s camp, Lt Gen Kavuma expressed satisfaction with the soldiers’ vigilance and commitment to maintaining security in Somalia.
“You have shown seriousness and professionalism in your work, and I urge you to maintain this vigilance even when you return home to Uganda,” he said, reminding the troops of the importance of upholding the UPDF ethos.
He highlighted the broader purpose of their deployment, stressing the role of pan-Africanism in their mission.
“Our business as UPDF in Somalia is all about pan-Africanism. We must sacrifice to ensure that Somalia is stable,” Lt Gen Kavuma remarked.
The Force Commander also encouraged the soldiers to embrace financial discipline through the Wazalendo Sacco, which he described as a valuable tool for savings and investment to secure their future.
On his part, UNGU-XI Commanding Officer, Lt Col Peter Ruyogoza Barigye, urged the troops to follow the Commander’s guidance, noting that discipline and commitment would not only strengthen their military careers but also foster personal development.
Lt Gen Kavuma’s visit is expected to boost morale and enhance the operational effectiveness and cohesion of UNGU-XI forces as they continue their peacekeeping mission in Somalia.
