The M23 rebel group has accused coalition forces aligned with the Kinshasa government of killing three civilians during an armed incursion in Bukombo.

According to the rebels’ spokesperson, Lawrence Kanyuka, the victims have been identified as Mbirinde Bishura, Nyiramutuzo Ruzindana, and Salama Ruzindana.

Kanyuka alleged that since the night of Wednesday, August 27, 2025, government coalition forces have been bombarding densely populated areas of Minembwe (Mikenke) and Kalehe (Katana, Kavumu, Katasomwa, Nyabibwe), as well as surrounding villages, using CH-4 drones, kamikaze drones, and heavy artillery.

He condemned what he called the “complicit silence” of human rights organizations regarding the killings and warned of ongoing ethnic cleansing targeting the Banyamulenge community.

The M23 spokesperson reiterated the group’s commitment to “protect and defend civilian populations.”
