Police in Nwoya District have arrested 35 suspects during an overnight intelligence-led operation in Anaka Town Centre, aimed at enhancing security and curbing rising criminal activities.

The crackdown, which targeted notorious black spots, began at 12:15 a.m. and ended at 4:00 a.m. on Thursday morning. Security teams focused on areas linked to illicit activities such as opium smoking, phone and bag snatching, and unlicensed gambling.

According to the District Police Commander, SP Reagan Magombe, the joint security team, comprising uniformed police, crime intelligence, and CID officers, applied tactical strategies to apprehend the suspects.

“Several stolen items believed to have been used in break-ins were also recovered during the operation”. SP Magombe said.

Following thorough screening and profiling, 16 of the suspects were identified as hardcore criminals and charged with cases of common nuisance under Nwoya CRB 603 and 604/2025.
