The Diocese of Kigezi Second Bishop’s Development Fund (BDF) function on Saturday turned into a political podium for several aspirants vying for different positions as they sought support from Christians ahead of the 2026 general elections, despite its main aim of raising funds to sustain strategic development plans in the Diocese.

The function, which attracted nearly 300 attendees at the Diocesan Convention Site on Rugarama Hill in Kabale Municipality, was hijacked by politics after the Commissioner of Parliament, who also doubles as the Woman Member of Parliament for Rubanda District, gained access to the microphone to lead the political wing that had graced the event.

Taking the microphone, Denis Ndyomugyenyi Nzeirwe, the Kabale LC5 Chairman NRM flag bearer, boldly commended Protestants for overwhelmingly backing him during the NRM primary elections held on 24th July 2025.
