The Ministry of Education and Sports has officially granted an operational licence to Maria Eldern High School Kacuro in Kyanamira Sub-county, Kabale District, a development that has been warmly welcomed by education stakeholders and the local community.
The development was announced by the school head teacher, Silver Begambagye, during a thanksgiving Mass held on Saturday at the school premises. Begambagye said the licence paves the way for the school’s registration and allocation of Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examination centre numbers.
He applauded the teaching staff for their resilience and commitment to imparting knowledge despite previous operational limitations.
Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Chairperson, Malchori Ahimbisibwe, urged parents to support the school through increased enrolment, while board member Jacinta Tinzaarwa encouraged students to set clear academic goals and make good use of their teachers.
“You have competent teachers, utilise them to acquire knowledge and uphold the school’s name. Parents must also play their part in nurturing these learners,” Tinzaarwa said.
She also warned community members against influencing students into immoral behaviour, stressing the importance of discipline for academic success.
Counsel Justus Muhangi, the school’s Vice Chairman Board, said efforts are underway to upgrade infrastructure and align the institution with national standards to ensure competitiveness.
Delivering the homily, Rev. Fr. Balthazar Ndyomugabe, Chaplain of Karoli Lwanga Hospital Nyakibale and Chairman of the Board of Governors, said the school’s establishment will reduce the long distances students have been travelling in search of education.
He implored learners to remain focused and avoid behaviours that could derail their academic journey.
The acquisition of the licence marks a major milestone for Maria Eldern High School Kacuro as it prepares to compete favourably with other registered institutions in the region.
