Police in Rukungiri District are investigating the suspected murder of a 32-year-old man whose body was discovered in a water trench along the Rukungiri–Kihihi highway on Thursday morning.
The deceased, identified as Evaristo Nuwabine, also known as Thursday, was found with multiple head injuries at Kibarama Village at around 7:00 am.
According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, two suspects, Muhwezi Narasensio and Tindyebwa Hillary, have been arrested to assist with inquiries.
Preliminary investigations indicate that on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, Nuwabine had spent the evening drinking alcohol (waragi) at several local bars with his brothers and friends.
The group reportedly moved between bars owned by Kyarikunda Moreen, Nankunda Christian alias Acleo, and later Nuwagaba Obadia. At around 11:00 pm, most members of the group dispersed, with Narasensio allegedly leaving in the company of the deceased.
However, Nuwabine’s body was later found the following morning by Tindyebwa Hillary, one of his drinking companions, who alerted local residents and the area chairperson Henry Matendere, before reporting the matter to police.
Officers from Bugangari Police Station responded to the scene, conducted documentation, and transferred the body to Rwakabengo Health Centre III Mortuary for postmortem examination.
Maate confirmed that investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances leading to Nuwabine’s death.
