Police in Rubanda District are investigating a tragic suicide involving a 40-year-old visually impaired man, identified as Ivan Nyesiga, a resident of Mareju Cell, Nyakabungo Ward in Rubanda Town Council.

Nyesiga was found hanging in his room on Saturday morning, at around 8:00 a.m. His body was discovered by his brother, Tumwesigye Joshua, who shared the same house but slept in a separate room. Upon stepping outside, Joshua noticed the heartbreaking scene and immediately raised alarm.

The incident was reported to police by the local council chairperson, Innocent Twinomujuni. Officers visited and documented the scene, conducted an on-site postmortem, and later handed the body over to the family for burial.

Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate condemned the act and urged the public to seek help rather than resorting to suicide.

“People should never think of terminating their lives over issues that can be amicably addressed once reported to the relevant offices,” Maate said.

Maate encouraged communities to support vulnerable individuals, especially those living with disabilities, by offering emotional, social, and psychological assistance.
