The incumbent Ndorwa East Member of Parliament, Honorable Wilfred Niwagaba, has been duly nominated to contest for the same seat as an independent candidate in the January 2026 General Elections.
The nomination was conducted by the Kabale District Electoral Commission Returning Officer, Aisha Nansubuga, during a ceremony held at the District Electoral Commission offices on Makanga Hill in Kabale Municipality on Wednesday.
Speaking to journalists shortly after his nomination, Honorable Niwagaba, who also serves as the Shadow Attorney General, said running as an independent candidate gives him the flexibility to choose parliamentary committees where he can best serve the interests of his constituents.
He revealed plans to return to the Budget Committee of Parliament, where he intends to push for increased funding to sectors that directly impact ordinary citizens. His key priorities include:
Education: Advocating for equal pay for all teachers, improving school infrastructure, and enhancing access to quality education across the constituency.
Health: Pushing for the upgrading and adequate staffing of Health Centre IIIs across the district to ensure better access to medical services.
Infrastructure: Strengthening the road network, expanding access to clean water, and extending electricity coverage to boost livelihoods and economic productivity.
Honorable Niwagaba reaffirmed his commitment to championing people-centered development and ensuring that government resources are allocated equitably to meet the needs of rural communities.
He emphasized that his decision to contest as an independent reflects his determination to serve all constituents regardless of political affiliation, and to promote transparency and accountability in government programs.
