President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has applauded the continued cooperation between the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government and the Muslim fraternity in promoting peace, unity, and development across Uganda.
In a message delivered by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, during the inauguration of Sheikh Ali Mwesigye as the new Kisoro District Kadhi on Saturday, President Museveni congratulated the new leader and commended the Muslim community for their commitment to national progress.
The event, held at Kisoro Hill Primary School playground, was presided over by the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje.
President Museveni emphasized that true leadership means uniting people around shared goals such as peace, prosperity, and development for all Ugandans.
He urged the new Muslim leadership in Kisoro to foster harmony, cooperation, and mutual respect among citizens regardless of religion, tribe, or political affiliation, noting that national unity has been key to Uganda’s peace and stability since 1986.
The President also encouraged religious and community leaders to mobilize citizens toward wealth creation through the four key sectors of growth, commercial agriculture, industry, services, and ICT, while promoting the Parish Development Model (PDM) as a strategy to transition households from subsistence to a money-based economy.
In his remarks, Tayebwa commended the Mufti, Sheikh Mubaje, for recognizing the government’s continued support to the Muslim community.
“The NRM government will continue to support the Muslim fraternity. On my own behalf, I congratulate Sheikh Ali Mwesigye and pray that Allah guides him in his new leadership journey,” Tayebwa said.
