The independent candidate for the Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament seat, Alex Edgar Muhwezi, has raised concerns over the lack of civic education among voters ahead of the 2026 General Elections.

Speaking after the campaign harmonization meeting organized by the Kabale District Electoral Commission Office at Rukiiko Hall on Monday, Muhwezi described civic education as a fundamental tool for ensuring free and fair elections. He expressed disappointment that the issue continues to receive limited attention from the Electoral Commission, both in terms of funding and institutional commitment.

Muhwezi noted that inadequate voter sensitization often results in confusion and misconduct during election periods. He emphasized that civic education should not be treated as a one-time activity, but rather as an ongoing process that strengthens democratic participation.

She emphasized her trust in the authorities’ promise, stating, “Everyone expects that what they have promised will be delivered. They have promised security to each and every candidate, and I believe if they follow their word, then we are all secure.”
