As President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni prepares to visit Kisoro District on November 24 for his presidential campaign rallies in the Kigezi sub-region, local leaders from Bukimbiri County have raised concerns over persistent neglect and unequal access to government attention and services.
During a National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential preparation meeting held at the Kisoro District Council Hall, chaired by NRM District Chairperson Dr. Philemon Mateke, the leaders convened separately to express frustration that Bukimbiri is often excluded from presidential visits and key government engagements.
The leaders argued that their county continues to face chronic challenges, including poor infrastructure, limited service delivery, and unfulfilled government promises, despite its contribution to the district’s economy through tourism, agriculture, and natural resources.
Kamusime Juliet, the LC5 Councilor representing Bukimbiri and Nyanamo Town Council, said repeated government pledges such as the long-awaited Kisoro–Buhoma tourism road remain unfulfilled, deepening public frustration and weakening confidence in the ruling party’s commitment to equitable development.
She warned that without the President’s direct engagement, residents may continue feeling abandoned, noting that a visit could restore faith and unity among the people of Bukimbiri.

Mutambuzi Fred Kanyarujju, the LCIII Chairperson of Nyundo Sub-county, acknowledged the President’s role in elevating Bukimbiri to county status but emphasized that residents still face segregation in service delivery and political appointments.
He appealed to the NRM district leadership to include Bukimbiri in the President’s campaign itinerary, stressing that continued exclusion would only deepen political apathy among locals.

Similarly, Charles Ahimbisibwe, the District Councilor representing Bukimbiri County, highlighted that the area’s education, health, and transport systems remain severely underfunded.
He noted that while Bukimbiri contributes significantly to national revenue through its natural resources, the benefits are rarely felt by its people.

Norah Mugabe, the LC5 Woman Councilor for Nyanamo Town Council and Nyabwishenya Sub-county, said a presidential visit would not only boost morale but also provide residents a platform to voice their development priorities.

The leaders jointly appealed to the NRM campaign organizing committee to revisit the President’s schedule and allow for a stopover in Bukimbiri County, arguing that inclusive engagement is essential for addressing regional inequalities and strengthening the NRM’s grassroots support.
