A total of 4,724 special polling constables from the Kigezi region have begun training to equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to ensure security during the 2026 general elections.
The training, held at Kigezi College Butobere in Kabale District, was officially opened by Alex Wabwiire, the Kigezi Region Police Commander. Wabwiire urged trainers to exercise caution and patience while handling the recruits, noting that they are civilians of different age groups who have not undergone medical assessments to determine their physical fitness.
He underscored the need for strict time management to ensure that all training objectives are achieved within the scheduled period.
Wabwiire further stressed the importance of teaching trainees essential standards, including proper conduct toward superiors, adherence to uniform guidelines, professional behavior while on duty, and their roles and responsibilities at polling stations.
Kigezi Region Police Community Liaison Officer Gilbert Mwebembezi encouraged the trainees to remain focused and committed throughout the exercise. He emphasized the value of discipline, respect for trainers, and cooperation among trainees, warning that any form of indiscipline or misconduct would not be tolerated
