Police in the Kigezi Sub-region have cautioned residents against over-eating and excessive drinking during the Christmas festive season, urging the public to celebrate responsibly to avoid accidents and health risks.

Kigezi region Police spokesperson, Elly Maate, emphasized that while the festive period is often marked by large gatherings, night prayers, and family celebrations, it can also present opportunities for criminal activity and accidents. He therefore called on residents to remain vigilant and take precautions to ensure their safety and that of others.

Maate advised people attending church services or public events to travel in groups, avoid late-night movements, and stay alert for any suspicious activities. He also warned that homes should be properly secured and children should not be left alone.

Drivers were specifically reminded to remain sober, avoid over-speeding, and ensure their vehicles are in good condition before long journeys.

“Enjoy the festive season, but do so responsibly. Every resident has a role to play in maintaining peace and security,” Maate said.
