The Kabale Municipality Mayor Emmanuel Sentaro Byamugisha has asked President Yoweri Museveni to direct Senior Presidential Advisor Peace Rugambwa to leave Kabale District, accusing her of undermining local leadership, dividing residents and fueling conflict.

Sentaro, who was on Tuesday re-elected mayor after defeating National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Sam Arinaitwe, made the appeal on Wednesday evening while addressing traders and residents at Kabale Central Market. He claimed that Rugambwa, while appearing on a local radio station, referred to him as a “devil,” a comment he said angered voters and residents of Kabale.

According to Sentaro, Rugambwa’s activities have caused divisions among the people of Kabale, a situation he said has negatively affected President Museveni’s support in the district. He warned that if Rugambwa is not transferred from Kabale, her continued actions could lead to instability.

Sentaro also cautioned Rugambwa against making what he termed “illegitimate statements” concerning Kabale Central Market, saying her remarks had created confusion among vendors.

He cited an address Rugambwa made at Emmaus Bible School in Northern Division, where she reportedly told residents that she intended to remove vendors operating in lockups and replace them with those who claimed they had been illegally evicted.

Sentaro described these statements as misleading and accused Rugambwa of spreading false information that has caused panic among market vendors.
