A 28-year-old casual laborer, Martin Akansiima, was knocked dead in a fatal road crash on Valentine’s Day in Kanaba Sub- County, Kisoro District.

Akansiima, a resident of Kyogo Village in Kamwezi Sub- County, Rukiga District, died when a white Fuso Fighter truck, registration number UAW 876C, overturned at around 2:00pm at Kagoma Village along the Kyanakye–Mukaka Road in Kanaba Sub- County.

According to Police, the truck was transporting onions from Kagoma Village to Kyanakye when the accident occurred. It is alleged that heavy rainfall made the road slippery, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, which later overturned into a valley. Akansiima, who was seated in the co-driver’s seat, died on the spot.

The driver and another passenger, whose identities had not yet been established by press time, sustained injuries in the crash.
