The Curate of Christ the King Catholic Parish in Kabale Municipality, Rev. Fr. Nelson Agaba has called on Christians to recognize Jesus’s divine identity, saying the radiant transformation of Christ reveals him not merely as a teacher, but as the glorified Son of God in whom all fullness dwells.

In his Homily during the Second English Mass at Christ the King Parish in Kabale on Sunday, Rev. Fr. Agaba reflected on the Transfiguration of the Lord, urging Christians to deepen their faith and fully embrace Christ’s authority in their lives.

He emphasized that the heavenly voice from the cloud clearly instructed the disciples to “listen to him,” underscoring Jesus as the final authority above Moses and Elijah.

According to Rev. Fr. Agaba, this moment affirms that Christ is the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets, represented by the presence of Moses and Elijah on the mountain.

“The Transfiguration reminds us that Jesus is not just one of the prophets, but the Son of God,” he said. “When the Father commands us to listen to him, it means Christ’s word must guide every aspect of our lives.”

Rev. Fr. Agaba further noted that encounters with God’s glory are meant to transform believers, not simply provide a temporary spiritual escape.

He explained that just as the disciples had to descend from the mountain back to the valley, Christians too must return to their daily responsibilities strengthened by their experience of God’s presence.

“After every spiritual high moment, we must go back into the world and live out what we have experienced,” he added. “Our faith should shine in our families, workplaces, and communities.”

He also reflected on the moment when the disciples were overcome with fear, saying Jesus’ reassuring words, “Do not be afraid,” demonstrate that Christ remains the ultimate source of comfort and encouragement in times of uncertainty.

Rev. Fr. Agaba pointed out that the Transfiguration came shortly after Jesus predicted his suffering and death, highlighting that glory is achieved through sacrifice. He reminded Christians that the path to resurrection and victory often passes through the cross.

He encouraged the faithful to remain steadfast, trust in Christ’s guidance, and draw courage from his presence, especially during challenging times.
