The Curate of Christ the King Catholic Parish in Kabale Municipality, Rev. Fr. Nelson Agaba, has called on Christians to seek the true satisfaction that comes from Jesus Christ, reminding them that worldly pursuits can only fulfill human desires temporarily.
While delivering his homily during the second Mass, Fr. Agaba explained that many people spend their lives chasing things that offer only short-lived happiness, such as wealth, status, or material possessions.
He said Jesus teaches that real and lasting fulfillment is found in what He describes as “living water,” a gift of spiritual life that quenches the deepest thirst of the human soul.
Reflecting on the encounter between Jesus Christ and the Samaritan woman at the well, Fr. Agaba said the story demonstrates how God’s grace reaches everyone regardless of their background, social status, or past mistakes.
He noted that Jesus deliberately broke social, cultural, and religious barriers by speaking to a Samaritan woman, showing that no one is beyond God’s love or mercy.
He emphasized that the message reminds Christians that God seeks out even those who may feel rejected or burdened by their past, offering them a new beginning and purpose in life. According to Fr. Agaba, Jesus’ knowledge of the woman’s complicated history did not lead to condemnation but rather opened the door for reconciliation and salvation.
Fr. Agaba also explained that the conversation highlights the meaning of true worship, saying Jesus shifts the focus from physical places of worship to a deeper, sincere relationship with God. He said true worship is not confined to a specific mountain or temple but must come from the heart and be guided by the Holy Spirit in “spirit and truth.”
The priest further encouraged Christians to learn from the Samaritan woman’s response after encountering Jesus. Instead of keeping the experience to herself, she immediately shared her testimony with others and invited them to “come and see.” Fr. Agaba said this simple act of sharing one’s personal experience with Christ is a powerful form of evangelism.
He added that the story also challenges believers to overcome prejudice and discrimination when spreading the gospel, stressing that the message of Christ is meant for all people regardless of race, tribe, or background.
Fr. Agaba reminded Christians that Jesus redefined what it means to be nourished, saying His “food” was doing the will of God the Father. He urged Christians to prioritize spiritual growth and service to God over the pursuit of temporary comforts, noting that true fulfillment comes from living according to God’s purpose.
