A decomposing body of an unidentified woman has been discovered floating on River Rwabakazi in Rwagana Cell, Mwanjari Ward, Southern Division of Kabale Municipality.
According to the spokesperson for police in Kigezi region, Elly Maate, police were notified about the incident on Tuesday afternoon. Officers responded to the scene where it was examined and documented.
Maate said the body, which was already in a decomposing state, was retrieved from the river and transported to the mortuary at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.
He appealed to members of the public who may have a missing relative to visit the hospital mortuary to help identify the deceased, so that the body can be handed over for a decent burial as investigations into the matter continue.
