Police in Greater Bushenyi are investigating two separate hit-and-run accidents, that claimed the lives of different individuals on Sunday.
In the first incident, an unidentified adult female was fatally hit at approximately 7:50 PM along Mashonga, on the Ishaka–Kasese Road.
Tayebwa Apollo, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer for Greater Bushenyi, stated that eyewitnesses suspected the woman may have been mentally ill, as she was walking along the road toward Mashonga when an unknown motor vehicle traveling in the opposite direction struck her and fled the scene.
The deceased’s body was taken to Kitagata Hospital Mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted, to determine the exact cause of death, as required by law.
In a separate incident, Kato Benon, a 47-year-old resident of Ngoro 1A Village, Ngoro Parish, Kyabakara Sub-County, Rubirizi District, was killed in a hit-and-run along Katerera–Kyabakara Road.
Tayebwa noted that a postmortem examination has been completed, and the body was handed over to the family for burial.
Tayebwa appealed to anyone with information that could help police apprehend the suspects to report it confidentially to the nearest Uganda Police station. He also strongly urged all road users to strictly observe traffic rules and regulations to safeguard lives and property.
