Police in Wakiso District have arrested a 34-year-old woman in connection with the alleged torture of a 10-year-old boy in Kanaala Zone, Mutundwe Parish, Bunamwaya Division.
According to Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Rachael Kawala, the suspect, identified as Esther Nankunda, is currently in custody at Nateete Police Station as investigations continue.
The victim, a Primary Four pupil, had reportedly been left in the care of the suspect by her brother. Preliminary police findings indicate that the incident occurred on Eid al-Fitr, March 20, 2026, at around 5:00 pm.
Kawala says that Nankunda allegedly tortured the child by burning his hands with a heated white polythene bag, accusing him of stealing 100,000 Ugandan shillings.
Police say the boy has since been rescued and taken for medical examination, and is currently receiving care.
She condemned the act, describing it as a serious violation of children’s rights. Police reiterated their commitment to protecting minors and urged the public to report cases of child abuse promptly.
“The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court as investigations progress”. She said.
