The business community in Rubaare Town Council have taken a proactive step toward fostering organized and inclusive urban growth by formally engaging local authorities over the upcoming enforcement of a trade order.
In a letter dated April 7, 2026, issued by the business Community Chairperson Muhinda Fred, addressed to the Town Clerk, the traders outlined constructive proposals aimed at protecting livelihoods while supporting compliance with physical planning regulations.
Top on their request is an extension of the enforcement deadline from April 15 to July 1, 2026. This, they say, would provide adequate time for affected businesses to relocate smoothly to designated areas, minimizing disruption and safeguarding incomes.
The traders renewed their long-standing call for the allocation of a gazetted market space to accommodate daily vendors.
Such a facility, they noted, would not only improve organization but also create a more structured and conducive trading environment for the growing business community.
Additionally, the business leaders proposed a sensitization meeting involving traders and landowners.
“The engagement would focus on guiding stakeholders on how to upgrade their premises to meet required physical planning standards, ensuring compliance ahead of any enforcement measures”. He said.
The appeal has been widely shared with key district and local leaders, including security and administrative officials, in a move that underscores the community’s commitment to transparency and collaboration.
Town authorities are now expected to review the proposals, presenting an opportunity to strike a balance between effective urban planning and the practical needs of local entrepreneurs.
If embraced, the initiative could mark a significant step toward a more organized, business-friendly, and sustainable future for Rubaare Town.
