Parents in Kisoro Municipality have been encouraged to take a more active role in shaping the discipline and character of their children, a move that is already yielding positive results at Muhabura Shine Secondary School.
Speaking during a press engagement at the school’s main hall, Head Teacher Martin Nabbasa emphasized that discipline is the foundation of academic excellence and a key determinant of a learner’s future success. He noted that students who are well-disciplined are easier to guide and consistently perform better in class.
Nabbasa highlighted the importance of strong collaboration between parents and teachers, urging parents to go beyond paying school fees and actively engage in their children’s education. He encouraged regular school visits to monitor learners’ progress, behavior, and overall wellbeing.
“Education is a shared responsibility,” he stressed, adding that when parents remain involved, learners feel more supported and motivated to excel.
The school leadership also called on parents to instill practical life skills in their children during weekends and holidays. Teaching domestic responsibilities and basic skills, Nabbasa explained, helps learners become more responsible, productive, and prepared for life beyond the classroom.
Beyond academics, Muhabura Shine Secondary School is making remarkable strides in co-curricular activities, particularly sports. The head teacher reaffirmed the school’s commitment to nurturing talents across Kigezi Region and beyond, using sports as a tool to reduce youth idleness, curb negative behaviors, and create future employment opportunities.
In a major milestone, the school’s girls’ football team has qualified for the national secondary school competitions, a testament to the institution’s growing reputation as a center for both academic and talent excellence.
With a strong focus on discipline, parental involvement, and talent development, Muhabura Shine Secondary School continues to set a shining example in transforming education and empowering the next generation.
