The Chief Justice of Uganda, Dr. Flavian Zeija, has criticized advocates involved in fraud and embezzlement, warning that such conduct undermines the integrity of the legal profession.
He made the remarks while presiding over the 2nd Annual Law Faculty Dinner of Kabale University, held at White Horse Inn in Kabale Municipality on Tuesday evening. The event was held under the theme “Lawyers Beyond the Courtroom.” He noted that some lawyers have opened law chambers to engage in fraudulent activities and shield criminals.
Justice Zeija also cautioned young lawyers against drug abuse and alcoholism, urging them to uphold integrity rather than pursue wealth through dishonest means. He further encouraged lawyers to promote reconciliation instead of excessive litigation, noting that only a small percentage of Ugandans seek justice through formal courts.

The Vice Chancellor of Kabale University, Joy Kwesiga, revealed that the institution has faced challenges attracting senior and qualified staff despite repeated recruitment efforts. She attributed this to the perception that Kabale District is hard to reach, which has negatively affected service delivery. She called on the government to devise incentives to attract professionals to hard-to-reach areas.
