Police in Wakiso District have arrested two suspects allegedly armed with pangas following numerous complaints from residents in Kawempe and surrounding areas.
The suspects, identified as Serwanja Najjib and one Derrick, were arrested during an intelligence-led operation conducted on Tuesday night along Tula–Namere Road in Kawempe Division.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala, speaking on Wednesday morning, said several key exhibits were recovered during the operation.
She said the suspects are believed to have been involved in a series of break-ins targeting homes, where victims were reportedly attacked and robbed of their belongings.
“Upon searching their bags, officers recovered pangas, breaking implements, and two suspected stolen mobile phones,” Kawala said.
She further noted that a motorcycle, registration number UGD 081D, which the suspects were allegedly using at the time of their arrest, was also impounded. However, its number plate had reportedly been deliberately concealed.
Kawala added that police operations are ongoing to apprehend other suspects linked to similar violent robberies in the area.
“Our forces are intensifying efforts to arrest other individuals involved in these attacks. Investigations are continuing as we maintain the crackdown on panga-wielding criminals in the region,” she said.
