The Ministry of Works and Transport has announced the start of key infrastructure improvements along the Mbarara–Ishaka Road, a move aimed at enhancing road safety and boosting transport efficiency in the region.

Construction of a concrete box culvert at Rwebikoona Trading Centre, located at Km 0+560 off the Mbarara–Kabale Road, is set to begin on May 4, 2026, and will run for approximately three months. The project is expected to significantly improve drainage at a section of the road that has long posed challenges during heavy rains.

According to the Ministry, the works form part of broader efforts to strengthen Uganda’s road network and ensure smoother movement of people and goods, particularly in the busy western corridor.

While temporary traffic interruptions may occur during the construction period, Permanent Secretary Bageya Waiswa has assured the public that proper traffic management measures will be implemented to maintain safety and order.
