One person has been confirmed dead and two others seriously injured following a road accident in Kanungu District.
The deceased has been identified as Kenneth Owomugisha (35), a resident of Rwangoboka Cell, Karubezi Parish, Nyakinoni Sub-county in Kanungu District.
The injured persons are Jenifer Kesande, a resident of Kanyantorogo, and Fortune from Kihihi.
According to police, the accident occurred on Wednesday at about 8:00 PM when a white lorry, registration number UBH 240P, was traveling from Rutenga Market, carrying goods and passengers.
Upon reaching Mashenya, the vehicle reportedly failed to negotiate a section of the road due to poor road conditions and excessive load, causing it to lose balance and overturn.
One passenger died on the spot, while two others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Katate Health Centre IV for medical treatment.
The Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, Elly Maate, confirmed that police visited and documented the scene. Maate said that the body of the deceased was taken to Katate Health Centre IV mortuary pending postmortem examination.
He added that investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of the accident.
