Residents of Gahinga Cell in Kinyababa Ward, Cyanika Town Council, Kisoro District, were left in shock on Tuesday after a 54-year-old man was found dead in an apparent suicide at his home.
The deceased has been identified as Michael Mugisha, a resident of Gahinga Cell in Bufumbira South Constituency, Kisoro District. His body was reportedly discovered hanging inside the kitchen of his home at around 11:00 a.m.
According to the LC1 Chairperson of Gahinga Village, Benon Semanza, the incident came as a shock to the community because Mugisha was known as a friendly and cooperative person who maintained good relationships with everyone.
Semanza told Metropolitan FM that he had spent part of the morning with the deceased at Iryaruhuri Trading Centre and had no indication that anything was wrong before the tragic incident occurred.

Mugisha’s son, Kenneth Nizeyimana, said his father had earlier given him a smartphone to charge and asked him to return it once fully charged. While still waiting for him at Iryaruhuri Trading Centre, he instead received the devastating news of his father’s death.

Relatives and friends described the deceased as someone who had been living peacefully with family members and expressed disbelief over the incident, saying the community remains deeply shocked.
Police in Kisoro visited the scene, recorded statements from witnesses, and conducted a postmortem examination before handing over the body to relatives for burial arrangements. However, no official statement has been released regarding the matter.
