The Rubanda District LC5 Chairperson, Hon. Stephen Kasyaba Ampeire, has condemned reports that some officials from the Rubanda District Police Department allegedly demanded money to transport the body of a deceased accident victim from the scene to his home and to wash the vehicle used in the transportation.
Kasyaba made the remarks on Wednesday during the burial of Martin Muhereza, popularly known as “Lukaku,” in Omuruhita Cell, Kakore Parish, Hamurwa Sub-county, Rubanda District.
Muhereza, 32, died instantly in a road accident on Monday evening at Mukyitenge Village along the Kabale–Kisoro Road in Hamurwa Sub-county. He was riding a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UMA 129LN.
According to preliminary police reports, the accident occurred at around 6:00 p.m. when Muhereza reportedly failed to negotiate a corner and collided head-on with a white low-bed trailer, registration number UN 26013.
Speaking at the burial, Kasyaba said the situation could have escalated into a confrontation between police officers and angry residents had it not been for the intervention of district leaders.
He described the alleged practice as unacceptable and pledged that the district leadership would investigate the matter and take appropriate measures to curb such incidents in the future.

Meanwhile, the Kakore Parish Catechist, Julius Orishaba, and the Hamurwa Sub-county LCIII Chairperson, Stanislaus Nyarare, cautioned relatives against grabbing property belonging to deceased persons.
They emphasized that the property left behind should primarily be used to support the widow and orphans rather than being shared among extended family members.
Orishaba urged the public to act responsibly after the death of loved ones, warning that actions driven by greed could invite God’s displeasure.
