Police in Kasese Municipality have arrested two men on allegations of attempting to rob and assault a 35-year-old woman in an incident that occurred on Friday night.
The suspects have been identified as Kasaija Khasim, 37, and Amanyire Habibu, 40, both casual workers and residents of Kasunganyaja Trading Centre in Bunyangabo District.
According to the Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, the incident happened at around 9:00 p.m. on June 26, 2026, when the victim, Florence Nakabira, a resident of Kyababinga Cell in Central Division, Kasese Municipality, was returning home from the market.
Police said the suspects allegedly attacked Nakabira at her residence and assaulted her with a hammer, leaving her with injuries to her left cheek.
The victim raised an alarm, prompting neighbours to respond swiftly and apprehend the two suspects before handing them over to police.
Preliminary investigations indicate that one of the suspects, Kasaija Khasim, was reportedly the victim’s boyfriend.
The suspects are currently detained at Kasese Central Police Station as investigations continue. Police say they will be arraigned in court upon completion of inquiries to face charges related to attempted robbery.
ASP Maate urged members of the public to be vigilant about the people they associate with and to report individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activities to the relevant authorities to help prevent similar incidents.
