Police in Kabale Municipality have launched investigations into an aggravated robbery in which armed assailants attacked a private security guard and fled with his rifle at a fuel station in Nyakijumba along Kabale – Mbarara road.
The incident occurred on Sunday night, according to Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson SP Nelson Tumushime.
The victim, Everest Ensinikweri, 53, a security guard attached to CRUMARK Private Security Company, was reportedly assaulted by the attackers, who struck him on the head with a large stick, leaving him unconscious before making off with a company rifle loaded with one round of live ammunition.
Police said efforts are underway to trace the suspects and recover the stolen firearm.
SP Tumushime appealed to members of the public with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to report to the nearest police station.
He also urged private security companies to strengthen the safety of their personnel by avoiding single-guard deployments, conducting proper risk assessments before deployment, and equipping guards with essential safety items such as whistles, torches and radio communication devices.
He further advised the public to report any attacks on security guards immediately through the nearest police station.
