Masaka City Woman MP Justine Nameere has thanked President Yoweri Museveni and Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba for supporting her during a bitter political battle that culminated in the High Court upholding her election victory.

Nameere, who survived an election petition filed by her rival Rose Nalubowa, accused unnamed officials within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) of allegedly collaborating with members of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) to frustrate her political ambitions and deny her victory in the January 2026 parliamentary elections.

In an emotional statement posted on X following the October 21, 2026 ruling, Nameere described the court decision as divine intervention against what she called political mafias, dishonest politicians and enemies determined to destroy her political career.

“MY TESTIMONY: GOD HAS DONE IT! THE ALMIGHTY LIVING GOD HAS ASHAMED THE DEVIL! THE ALMIGHTY LIVING GOD HAS DEFEATED MONITORING SPIRITS!” she declared.

The legislator alleged that her troubles began during the NRM primaries, claiming that individuals within the ruling party later teamed up with opposition figures to undermine her electoral prospects.

“Mafias and thieves fought me since the NRM primaries, but the Almighty God defeated them. They ganged up, those hiding in NRM teamed up with dealers in NUP who peddle ‘commercial opportunistic opposition’,” Nameere wrote.

She accused the alleged political network of manipulating the electoral process and forcing her to seek legal intervention after the initial declaration of results went against her.

Nameere credited Museveni for listening to her account of the dispute and giving her consideration after learning what she described as the truth about the alleged political manoeuvres.

“And by His mercy, God showed His Excellency the President the whole truth in my story, and I earned his kind consideration,” she said.

She also praised Gen Muhoozi, whom she referred to as her big brother and generational commander, claiming that he took an interest in her political predicament after learning about alleged cooperation between some NRM officials in Masaka City and NUP members.

According to Nameere, the CDF directed investigations into the alleged political networks, their origins and the motives of those involved.

“He even went ahead to direct an ongoing investigation into such mafia politics, its roots as well the real intention of those involved! Salute you General!” she wrote.

Nameere did not name the officials she accused or provide independent evidence of the alleged collaboration. She also did not disclose details of the investigation she referenced.

Her remarks followed a ruling by Masaka High Court judge Bernard Namanya, who dismissed an election petition filed by Nalubowa challenging the recount that overturned the initial parliamentary election results.

Nalubowa, who contested on the NUP ticket, was initially declared the winner of the January 15, 2026 election with 25,443 votes against Nameere’s 20,324. Nameere challenged the declaration, arguing that results from several polling stations had been omitted.

Masaka Chief Magistrate Abert Asiimwe subsequently ordered a recount of all 314 ballot boxes, which gave Nameere 25,502 votes against Nalubowa’s 23,176.

Nalubowa challenged the recount in the High Court, alleging that electoral officials had violated the law by counting votes despite broken seals, missing ballot papers and compromised ballot boxes.

In his October 21 judgment, Justice Namanya found that the recount had breached electoral laws and faulted the Electoral Commission for failing to safeguard election materials. However, he ruled that Nalubowa had not demonstrated that the irregularities had changed the final outcome.

The court established that 1,353 votes cast for the two leading candidates at nine polling stations had been excluded during the recount. The judge reasoned that even if all those votes were awarded to Nalubowa, Nameere would still lead by 973 votes. He consequently upheld Nameere’s election and ordered Nalubowa to pay the costs of the petition.

Celebrating the decision, Nameere said she had remained calm despite what she described as predictions by her political opponents that she would lose the case.

“Yesterday, while my enemies were yapping endlessly and making silly predictions, I was at complete peace — so happy, so full, so complete,” she wrote.

She further accused unnamed opponents of publicly presenting themselves as religious while allegedly engaging in witchcraft and sorcery, although she did not provide evidence to support the claims.Nameere used her victory to urge young Ugandans aspiring to enter politics to rely on their faith rather than political connections and influence.

“To all young people planning to join politics: Stick to ONLY and ONLY GOD!” she said. She concluded her statement by invoking Isaiah 54:17, declaring that no weapon formed against her would prosper.
