The Rukiga County Member of Parliament, Patrick Kiconco Katabaazi, has asked the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) to assess damage caused by floods and mudslides in Kashambya Sub-county and provide relief to affected communities.

Speaking during a plenary sitting on Tuesday, Katabaazi said the disasters had affected several villages, including Nyarubisi, Nyarugorogoro, Nyaruhanga, Rukoni and Kantare, damaging homes and roads.

He said the floods and mudslides had also affected educational institutions, including Kantare Secondary School, whose compound and laboratory were damaged and Kantare Primary School, where part of the school building was affected.

Katabaazi urged the government to urgently assess the extent of the destruction and provide assistance to households whose livelihoods had been disrupted.

In response, the Third Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Without Portfolio, Lukia Isanga Nakadama, said she would dispatch a team to the affected area to assess the damage.
