Police in Ibanda District have launched a manhunt for a 25-year-old man suspected of murdering a casual labourer whose naked body was discovered lying by the roadside in Kicuzi Sub-county.
The suspect, identified as Agaba Alex, a resident of Kakyindo Cell, Irimya Parish, is wanted in connection with the alleged murder of Masereka Didas, 35, who reportedly hailed from the same area.
The incident was reported on October 31, 2026, at about 7am after residents discovered Masereka’s body lying by the roadside. They subsequently alerted the LC I chairperson of Kakyindo Cell, who reported the matter to Kicuzi Sub-county Police Station.
Police officers from Kicuzi Sub-county and Ibanda Central Police Station, accompanied by the Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) and the Canine Unit, visited the scene to conduct investigations.
According to police, the scene had been preserved to facilitate canine operations. A police sniffer dog identified as DONATELLA picked up a scent and tracked it to the residence of the suspected assailant, Agaba.
However, the suspect was reportedly not at home and is believed to have fled into Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Rusoke Kituuma, the Uganda Police Spokesperson said the canine dog subsequently entered the suspect’s house and led officers to his bedroom, where they recovered clothes bearing suspected bloodstains, which were taken as potential exhibits to aid investigations.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s body was transported to Ruhoko Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
Police said the search for the suspect was ongoing as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the murder continued.
