A 32-year-old man has reportedly died by suicide after he was found hanging from an avocado tree in Rwanziro Cell, Kashambya Ward, Bitooma Town Council, Bushenyi District.

The deceased has been identified as Kato Junior, 32. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at around 4:00 a.m.

According to police, preliminary findings indicate that the deceased had a history of mental health challenges and had previously been stopped from harming himself.

The Greater Bushenyi Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Apollo Tayebwa, said initial investigations suggest that Kato left his home on Saturday night after reportedly telling his wife that he had heard someone outside allegedly stealing his matooke.

“When he did not return, his wife later searched for him and discovered his body hanging from an avocado tree in a nearby coffee plantation,” Tayebwa said on Sunday.
