KABALE – A 47 year-old-man has died on spot after a tree he was cutting with others fell on him in Kabale District.
The deceased has been identified as Kabahwezi John, a Mukiga by tribe, casual laborer and a resident of Kyamugasha village, Kyanamira Sub County according to report released by Police in Kabale District.
According to a report released by the Kabale District Police, the unfortunate incident occurred on the morning of November 28, 2023, at 7:30 AM in Kyamugasha cell, Kyanamira Sub County. John, along with his colleagues, including Basigira Godfrey, was engaged in cutting down a tree. In a tragic turn of events, the tree unexpectedly fell on John, resulting in instantaneous death.
Elly Maate, the Police spokesperson for the Kigezi region, confirmed the incident. He noted that the local Officer in Charge (OC) was promptly notified, who, in turn, informed the District CID officer at Kabale Central station.
He said the scene was thoroughly examined by a Homicide team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (D/SP) Mukama Hakim, along with officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (D/CID) and Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO). Statements from relevant witnesses were also obtained during the investigation.
However, a noteworthy twist occurred when the deceased’s relatives rejected the idea of a post-mortem examination. They expressed contentment with the belief that John’s death was a tragic accident. The grieving family members declined any further forensic procedures.
