KISORO – The Chief Magistrate Court Presided Over by His Worship Kenneth Komakech yesterday granted bail to Justine Kemirembere, a woman in her 30s, who faced charges of failing to repay an 11-million-shilling debt in Kisoro District.
Kemirembere, a resident of Ndego in Rubanda District, received money from the complainant, Sentogyi Joseph, a trader, in three installments of 3 million, 6 million, and 2 million shillings during September, October, and November. The funds were intended for purchasing Irish potatoes.
In court, the state prosecutor, Ellen Nambi, and the complainant revealed that Kemirembere allegedly did not use the money to buy the agreed-upon potato seedlings.
Kemirembere defended herself, claiming that she had purchased the seedlings but discovered their unavailability in the storage she utilized.
She blamed the complainant for escalating the matter to court without involving the local council (LC1) first, prompting her request for bail.
Chief Magistrate Komakech, having considered arguments from both sides, granted bail to Kemirembere and scheduled further hearings for January 15, 2024.
It was disclosed that, prior to the financial dispute, the complainant and the accused had been engaged in a business partnership, selling Irish potatoes.
The disagreement arose when Kemirembere, after receiving funds, failed to fulfill their agreed-upon transaction.
