KIGEZI – Police in Kigezi Sub-region recorded five murder cases and four accidents during the Christmas festival season, resulting in the loss of ten lives.
According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, these incidents occurred within a ten-day period from December 21, 2023, to December 31, 2023.
Remarkably, the celebrations marking the end of 2023 and the start of the New Year proceeded smoothly without any significant issues throughout the entire Kigezi region. Maate credited this to the effectiveness of public awareness programs conducted by security prior to the festival season.
He highlighted the emphasis placed on sensitizing the public to be security-conscious and vigilant in their celebrations, urging them to avoid activities that could lead to problems. Maate stressed the importance of remaining vigilant and cooperating with security forces, who were on high alert to ensure a peaceful festival season.
Assuring the public of their safety, Maate called for continued collaboration with local security personnel to prevent and combat crime, fostering a safer environment in 2024.
