RUBANDA – Police in Rubanda District are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a 24-year-old pedal cyclist, Ampumwize Alex who was struck by a speeding motorcycle in Rubanda District.
The deceased, Ampumwize Alex, hailed from Mukatasa cell, Nyarurambi ward, Rubanda town council. The accident also resulted in injuries to the motorcyclist, Ruhangariyo Sam (30), a resident of Mukibungo village, Kaara parish, Muko subcounty in Rubanda district.
The unfortunate incident transpired yesterday around 8:00 pm at Kabirizi cell, Nyarurambi ward, Rubanda town council, along the Kabale Kisoro road in Rubanda district, according to the police report.Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, informed the media that the injured motorcyclist was promptly transferred to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition.
Maate also said that Wakatuma Alamanzani, the District Traffic Officer for Rubanda, along with the investigative team, visited the scene and a postmortem examination was conducted today to further understand the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
Maate attributed the accident to reckless riding and over-speeding by the motorcycle rider.
