RUKUNGIRI: A 45-year-old butcher identified as Denis Turyamuhangayo has reportedly died in an accident along Rukungiri – Ntungamo road in Rukungiri district.
The deceased died in collision between his motorcycle, bearing registration number UER 980U Bajaj Boxer Red, and a silver Toyota Allion with registration number UBJ 142Z, driven by Mugarura Jackson, 72 years old.
Turyamuhangayo, a resident of Kashenyi go down in Ruhinda sub-county, Rukungiri district, was carrying a load of bananas (matooke) when the accident happened yesterday around 12:30 PM at Nyamayenje ward, southern division along the Rukungiri – Ntungamo road.
Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries at Nyakibale hospital. The collision occurred when both vehicles, traveling in opposite directions from Buyanja and Rukungiri sides respectively, collided head-on at a slightly curved junction road, where Turyamuhangayo was on his lane.
The impact caused serious injuries to the motorcycle rider and significant damage to both vehicles, scattering the bananas at the scene.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, attributed the accident to reckless driving by the driver of the Toyota Allion, UBJ 142Z.
The scene was attended to and documented by DTO Asp Ntawera Felix and his team. Both vehicles were towed and parked at the police station pending further investigation.
