KABALE: Christians in Kabale District have been advised against consuming meat as they celebrate Valentine’s Day, bearing in mind that it coincides with Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of the Lenten season, during which Christians traditionally abstain from meat.
Refraining from eating meat on Ash Wednesday respects the offering that Jesus made of the cross. Preaching during the third Mass at Christ the King Catholic Parish in Kabale Municipality, Rev. Fr. Ignitius Arinaitwe, the Chaplain of the Daughters of Our Lady of Fatima in Kabale Diocese, emphasized the importance of not indulging in meat consumption during Valentine’s Day celebrations.
He encouraged Christians to opt for other food options instead and to utilize the day for fasting and prayer, particularly focusing on nurturing their relationships and marriages.

Rev. Fr. Arinaitwe also urged Christians to embrace prayer, fasting, and charitable acts toward the less fortunate in society as they commence their 40-day journey of fasting in preparation for Easter. However, he cautioned against extreme fasting practices, especially for individuals who are unwell, emphasizing the importance of balancing faith with prudence.
