The Diocese of West Ruwenzori has launched a five-year Strategic Development Plan (2026–2030), outlining priorities in evangelism, social-economic development, environmental protection, and institutional growth.
The plan was unveiled on Thursday at St. Barnabas Cathedral, Bumadu, Bundibugyo District, in a ceremony presided over by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu.
Developed with technical support from Green Organic Solution Uganda, the strategy seeks to align the Diocese’s work with the Church of Uganda’s broader Strategic Planning Framework.
It emphasizes poverty eradication, health promotion, education, disaster preparedness, and climate resilience.
Zadock Amanya, a consultant from Green Organic Solution Uganda, said the framework aims to nurture a Christ-centered community while tackling challenges such as poverty, environmental degradation, and limited education opportunities.
The plan defines the Diocese’s vision as “a faster growing and sustainable Christ-centered Diocese” and its mission as winning souls for Christ in line with the Great Commission.
By 2030, the Diocese projects that 70% of believers will have been nurtured to Christian maturity holistically.
Bishop of West Ruwenzori, Rt. Rev. Barnabas Tibaijuka, said the initiative will bring order and coordination to the Diocese after years of unstructured planning.
“This is going to shape our direction. For the last two years, we have been surviving on guesswork. This plan will be our guiding tool to move forward as a team,” he said.
Archbishop Kaziimba commended the Diocese for embracing structured planning, reminding the congregation that “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.”
He also urged clergy to adopt financial discipline, including planning for retirement and strengthening integrity in ministry.
The plan further outlines measures to address child marriages, domestic violence, drug abuse, corruption, and other social challenges.
It also proposes interventions to improve education access, empower communities, and enhance self-reliance across Bundibugyo District and the wider region.
