Uganda Police officials have called on communities in Kigezi Sub region to take action against domestic violence, which they say is fueling a surge in murders across the region.

Senior Commissioner of Police (SCP) Ubaldo Bamunoba, the Force’s Chief Political Commissar, made the appeal during a meeting with police commanders and Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers from Kabale, Rubanda, Rukiga, Kisoro, Rukungiri, and Kanungu districts at Kabale District Council Hall on Wednesday.

The meeting focused on re-orienting officers’ mindsets, assessing preparedness for the 2026 general elections, and understanding local community dynamics.

He urged officers to use community platforms, including radio, churches, and mosques, to educate the public on peaceful conflict resolution and discourage violence that can escalate into murder.

Bamunoba also called on police probation officers to work closely with families, promoting awareness of the rights and responsibilities of both men and women and helping resolve conflicts without violence.
