Fatal Collision Claims Pedal Cyclist’s Life in Rubanda

RUBANDA – Police in Rubanda District responded to a fatal accident involving a motorcyclist named Alex Ngabirano, 17 years old, residing in Bishanyu cell, Katoma parish, Ruhija sub-county, and a pedal cyclist named Methodius Turyamureba, 38 years old, from Hamumba cell, Nyarurambi ward, Rubanda town council, both in Rubanda district.

The incident occurred on August 25, 2023, around 8:00 PM at Murore A, Nyakabungo ward, Rubanda Town council, along the Kabale-Kisoro road in Rubanda district.

Reportedly, both were traveling in the same direction from Kisoro towards Kabale. When the pedal cyclist reached a corner near Rubanda market, he attempted to execute a U-turn in the middle of the highway.

Regrettably, the motorcyclist collided with him, causing both to fall in the center of the road.

Good Samaritans came to their aid and rushed them to nearby clinics for initial medical care. Tragically, the pedal cyclist succumbed to his injuries on the way while en route to Kabale hospital.

The primary cause of the accident was attributed to reckless riding by both individuals.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, mentioned that the scene was visited and reconstructed by Asp Wakatuma DTO Rubanda and the team. A postmortem was conducted, and the pedal cyclist’s body was returned to his relatives for proper burial.

Both the motorcycle and bicycle involved in the accident were recovered and are currently held by the police for inspection.

Elly Maate also informed that the other victim, the motorcyclist, is currently under the care of Humura clinic and is receiving treatment while being monitored by authorities.
