KISORO: On Saturday, one person died and two others were injured in an accident along the Kisoro -Chanika road in Kisoro District.
The accident involved a motorcycle with registration number UEO184X, a red Bajaj Boxer, and an unknown tricycle. It occurred at around 7:30 PM at Muganza Junction.
The deceased has been identified as Michael Byukusenge, 30, a resident of Chahafi Town Council in Kisoro District. The injured victims are Nyiramajoro Norah, 28, and Oliver Mukanoheri, 18, both residents of Chahafi and passengers on the motorcycle.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi region Police spokesperson, stated that the motorcycle was coming from Chanika when it collided with a tricycle crossing to Muganza Health Center 3. He said that Police were notified, visited the scene, and rushed the victims to Kisoro Hospital. Byukusenge’s body was taken to the Kisoro Hospital mortuary for a postmortem.
“The motorcycle was recovered and parked at Kisoro CPS pending IOV inspection, while efforts to locate the tricycle and its rider are underway”. Maate stated.
Maate also mentioned that inquiries are ongoing and attributed the accident to reckless riding by the tricycle driver, who failed to yield the right of way to the motorcycle.
