Pedestrian Dies in Kabale Accident

KABALE – Police in Kabale District are currently searching for an unidentified driver responsible for a fatal collision that took the life of a 51-year-old pedestrian at Kyobugombe Trading Center along the Kabale-Mbarara highway.

The incident unfolded at Kyobugombe Trading Center in Kabale district, where the driver abandoned the vehicle at the scene.The victim, Kanyarutokye Johnson, a 51-year-old resident of Kayorero village in Kaharo sub-county of Kabale district, tragically lost his life on impact.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region police spokesperson, revealed that the vehicle involved was a Mitsubishi Fuso registered under UAN 393Z.

The accident occurred on August 22, 2023, around 09:00 AM at Kyobugombe Trading Center along the Kabale-Mbarara highway. Corporal Kambale and his team visited the site.

Kanyarutokye’s body was taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem before being released to his family for burial arrangements.

Subsequent to the incident, the police, led by Corporal Kambale’s team, proceeded to the scene, securing the Mitsubishi Fuso with registration number UAN 393Z.

The vehicle is currently stationed at Kabale Central Police station yard.The Inspector of Vehicles will inspect the vehicle as part of the ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident.

A case for the hit-and-run has been formally filed at the Kabale Central Police station, documented under reference number TAR 86/2023.
