Kabale District Youth Chairperson Urges President Museveni to Establish ICT Hub for Youth Empowerment

KABALE – The Kabale District Youth Chairperson, Tadeo Taremwa has urged President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to establish an ICT Hub, aiming to bolster local tech capabilities and enhance youth skills.

Taremwa made this appeal on August 18, 2023, during the International Youth Day celebration centered around the theme of accelerating recovery from COVID-19 and implementing the 2030 Agenda, with a focus on youth’s role.

The annual International Youth Day draws attention to cultural and legal issues pertinent to young people. During a ceremony held at Kigezi High School Primary lower playground Presided over by President Museveni, Taremwa emphasized the urgency of an ICT hub in Kabale District to address youth unemployment.

Taremwa highlighted that an ICT innovation hub offers workspaces, mentorship, education, and access to funding for startups.

He noted that it is crucial to allocate the necessary resources, including personnel, for the success of pilot programs, proofs of concept, and subsequent projects. He also emphasized the hub’s support in securing intellectual property rights for these innovations.

Minister for Gender, Labor, and Social Development, Betty Among, mentioned that her ministry would collaborate with the Education Ministry, focusing on Business, Technical, Vocational Education, and Training (BTVET), alongside Presidential Industrial Hubs. This collaboration aims to skill and employ the youth effectively.

As the Chief Guest, President Museveni praised a group of innovators from Mbarara University of Science and Technology led by Richard Kwagala. These innovators developed a gadget capable of monitoring blood clotting in the body. President Museveni pledged government funding for scientific innovators, emphasizing timely financial support.
