KIRUHURA – Police in Kiruhura District are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding an accident on the Lyantonde-Mbarara highway.
The incident took place today around 11:45 AM at Kibega near Kibega checkpoint, involving two vehicles: UBK 024T Zhong Tong (Red/white), registered to Tausi Bus Company, and UBK 866Z Subaru Forester (black).
The victims, including the Subaru driver in critical condition, were swiftly taken to Mbarara Referral Hospital.
The preliminary findings suggest that UBK 866Z was traveling from Lyantonde to Mbarara, UBK 024T was en route to Kampala, and the Subaru driver, allegedly driving recklessly at high speed, lost control, veering into the opposing lane, resulting in a head-on collision with the Tausi bus.
Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police spokesperson, reported that both vehicles have been towed to Sanga Police Station, awaiting inspection by the I.O.V. Investigations are ongoing.
