Police in Rukiga District are investigating a hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 25-year-old mechanic along the Kabale–Ntungamo highway in the early hours of Friday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Hillary Taremwa, a male adult Mukiga, and resident of Kabare Cell, Butare Ward, Muhanga Town Council in Rukiga District.
According to police, the incident occurred on 28th November 2025 at around 5:30am at Kabare Village along the Kabale–Ntungamo highway. Police says that Taremwa was knocked by unidentified motor vehicle while walking in the middle of the road as he was returning home from Kakatunda Trading Centre and reportedly died on the spot.
The identity and particulars of the motor vehicle involved remain unknown.
Police from Rukiga District Traffic Office, led by ASP Rubango J. Bosco and Sgt. Birihanyomyo George, visited the scene, documented evidence and cleared the roadway. The body of the deceased was conveyed to Mparo Health Centre IV for postmortem examination.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate said investigations are underway and efforts are ongoing to trace and identify the vehicle and driver involved in the fatal crash.
