RUBANDA – A single fatal road accident involving a UAZ 412P Isuzu Elf (blue) has resulted in the death of Nshemererwe Adrine (53) a resident of Kijaji Village, Kishanje Parish, Bufundi sub-county in Rubanda District.
According to Police Statement a tragic incident unfolded yesterday at 10:00Am at Kacerere quatres B, Kacerere ward, Kacerere town council along Bufundi Muko marrum road in Rubanda district.
Other victims, including Kizimpere Barnard, Barungwa Leo, Nyiransenga Peninah, Baryasanga Charles, Nkwasibwe Deziderio, Besigye Philip, Nshemererwe Molly, and Tumushabe Moses, suffered varying degrees of injuries.
The vehicle, carrying 45 to 50 passengers en route from Bufundi to Mukatasa village in Muko sub-county for a teacher’s burial, encountered a pothole at Kacerere town council. This led to a leftward bend, causing the hanger bars to break, resulting in passengers falling off. Tragically, Nshemererwe lost her life as the rear tire passed over her head.
Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson attributed the cause of the crash to overloading and poor road conditions.
Maate says that Law enforcement, led by Asp Wakatuma Alamanzani and Asp Okello Solomon, visited the scene, the deceased’s body was taken to Kacerere Hc111 for postmortem, and the vehicle was impounded at Rubanda Central Police Station for inspection.
Maate revealed that police are actively pursuing the driver, who is currently at large.
